"Somebody's Daughter" by David Bell

Anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE a good suspense/mystery novel. This past weekend I happened to be browsing through Target (per usual), and I wanted to grab a book to read while on my flight out of town. Checking out the various books, I saw with an eye-catching cover (with a great color-combination, by the way); the novel “Somebody’s Daughter” by David Bell. So I picked it up, looked at the back summary- which seemed pretty interesting- and figured I’d browse through it on the plane. I started the book this past Monday morning, and literally couldn’t put it down, and finished it by Tuesday afternoon.

Off top- the book was really, really good! There were great twist & turns, and captivating, gut-clinching moments. It’s one of those books when you’re constantly turning the page wanting to know what happens next; you just can’t put it down! That “I’ll just read five more minutes… Two more chapters!… Okay, one more page,” that kind of novel. I really enjoy mystery/suspense novels, so this particular book, was a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately, I hadn’t read any of Bell’s novels prior to, but based on how much I loved this book, I went to the library last night and grabbed four of his other non-fiction pieces, that I can’t wait to dive into! Anyone who enjoys a good mystery read, I highly recommend this book.

Normally I don’t like books that go back-and-forth between characters, and present-day/past scenarios, but this book did revert back & forth between the main characters- but it was more-so, just giving the scenario from a different perspective, and I applaud how smoothly the author did it. Somewhat like when you’re watching Criminal Minds and they just go to various scenes throughout the episode, giving more background/character viewpoints- but it leaves you wanting more and wanting to know what happened.

The book ended on a very good note, and came full circle (which is one of the key things I look for) while still leaving the reader just wanting more. Not necessarily with a bunch of questions- just wanting more to read; the book was that entertaining. I don’t want to give away too many details/specifics that go on in the novel- but again, I do recommend to any of my readers out there! Can’t wait to check out his next book and see what journey this will take me on! -Nina Michelle
