“The Golden Couple” by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen

Another “Book of the Month” read.

I enjoyed this book. Overall the authors kept the dynamic and mystery throughout the novel. The ending ended up catching me off guard; simply because I had initially thought it, then figured it wouldn’t be that simple- but I ended up being right. I would definitely be interested in checking out more novels from these authors.

Now, to go over a few things- more specifically:

(*below may contain spoilers for some*)

-I didn’t mind the back and forth viewpoints from Avery’s perspective, and Marissa’s, but I would’ve enjoyed reading it from Matthew’s perspective as well- BUT that may have given away too many of the “twists”. So I understand why the authors may have decided not to do it that way.

-The beginning of the book did come off as just another “domestic cheating” novel, but once you really got into it, it was very easy to get wrapped in it. Kind of like binging a tv series, and having to push through those first few episodes to really get into what’s going on.

-I’m curious as to why Matthew even killed Trina, and why his parents just kept quiet about it all those years. Is that why his father was so distant towards him? Why did it take so long for Skip to come forward and say something?

-Also, the company coming after Avery could have been a separate story in itself; I feel like it did give us a glance into her private life and world, but it also didn’t really aide to this actual storyline- outside of her connection to Matthew’s father.

Outside of those few things, I feel like the writing style flowed nicely, and both authors did a great job keeping the storyline interesting and edgy.

-Nina.
