“Twisted Love” by Ana Huang

I haven’t “crash-read” a book in a while. Not for lack of interest, but for lack of time. But this week my students are on their Winter Break- and I’m determined to relax and enjoy it myself. So binge reading is at the top of that list.

And THIS book- I literally started around 7pm last night, and finished before 5am this morning. Luckily my son took a late nap, and then still went to bed at his usual time, so I had all the time in the world.

“Twisted Love” has been floating around my bookstagram for some time now, and I finally broke and ordered a copy of the first of the four book series. I was NOT disappointed.

Ava’s character provided just the right amount of peace and “sunshine” to contrast with Alex’s ice-cold persona. Literally made for the perfect storm, and the calm after the storm. I loved the plot of this- and how the author presented many tropes roped into one. Usually I hate when it’s too much going on within one storyline -but in this case, it worked.

Certain parts did seem a little rushed, especially the ending part where an entire year was covered within like 2-3 pages. I wish we had more detailing with that- I wouldn’t have minded another 90-100 pages with extra chemistry. And the parts where Ava and Alex seemed to just be enjoying life as a couple- I wish their were more details with that. Just so as readers, we could have really seen that softer, more human side of Alex; though we did get a little snippet in the Epilogue and the Bonus Chapter.

The SPICE though- was off the chart. Man.

In reality, some of it would have made me cringe- or shut things down completely, but again, it’s a fictional story- so anything is fair game. And in this case, with Alex’s demeanor and Ava’s sparks of sass and fire- they worked.

Alex’s character almost seemed TOO perfect, like everything that made him who he was almost seemed “too-good to be true”, but we did get to see where those cracks in Mr. Perfect, made him a little more human and understanding.

The peak of this story definitely had me on edge- because I really thought it was going to be over between them. But I was not left disappointed or permanently heartbroken.

I’m one hundred percent excited to see what the rest of the books in the series have to offer, and cant wait to see the different character dynamics.
